This is a colourful hand sewn, English Hexagons quilt which appears
to have been made to fit a
standard double bed - on one hem end the corners have been shaped
to fit over pillows or the bottom end of the bed. (Could also be used
on a single bed with a less fitted look). Good condition for everyday
use!Age - Circa 1960's - 1970's. Where from - England. Hand Sewn - Yes. Machine Quilted - Yes. The batting and back layer have been machine quilted in lines, not through to the patchwork topping. Machine Hemmed - Yes. Materials Used - An array of cottons, polyester cottons and some other man made fibres in what appear to be dress and blouse fabrics. Batting - Unknown, feels like some sort of smooth blanket? Backing Material - A navy print, I'm not certain what this is, could be a fine wool cloth? Measurements - Approximately 78 inches by 64.5
inches. Slightly uneven shape.
Photos show the quilt on a King size 5ft wide bed, the quilt would fit
better a standard double size (or could be used on a single bed with a
less fitted look as this would give a good 'overhang' length down the
sides). I
took the photos with the curved ends over the pillows, then decided
perhaps they were meant to fit the corners at the end of the bed
instead - as shown in the last photo. Fraying - No. Holes - No. Stains - No stains, but there are several fabric bleeds from some patches into the patchwork surrounding it. Washed - Yes.
