0641 'Rose of Sharon' £110.00

An antique quilt in a sought after pattern/colour combination, in a very large size, now showing signs of wear with fraying applique and stains, but at over 100 years old still beautiful and displays well on the bed or folded over a quilt rack etc.
Age - Circa late 1800's.
Where from - Texas.
Hand Sewn - The appliqued flowers and stems have been hand sewn.
Machine Sewn - The large seams appear machine sewn.
Hand Quilted - Yes.
Hand and machine hemmed.
Materials Used - An off white cotton, and a plain red and faded green cotton. The green cotton would have originally been a strong leaf green, but it is now faded to a very pale, almost grey/green.
Batting - Thin thickness, cotton batting.
Backing Material - The same off white cotton as the front.
Measurements - approximately 92 inches by 90 inches.
Fraying - Yes, the green cotton has worn very thin and has frayed in lots of the small circular patches that have the red in the centre, plus in some of the leaf and stem patches. The red cotton patches are unfrayed apart from some seams that have come unstitched. The red binding is wearing thin in places and on one corner there is a small section of hemming a couple of inches long  that has frayed away totally.
Loose Seams - Yes, some of the appliqued patches have come apart.
Holes - Yes, as you can see in the two close up photos 3rd and 4th from the end, there are a couple of small holes near the hem edge.
Stains - Yes, there are lots of marks on this quilt, so not suitable for you if you are looking for an unmarked quilt. The front has approximately 10 large pale stains and a couple of smaller stronger marks. The backing also has some stains/marks.
Washed - Yes. I gave this quilt a very gentle wash in the bath tub as the green fabric is delicate. The stains might lighten a little with the quilt's next wash, but then again they may not and it's not the sort of quilt you wouldn't want to keep washing due to it's age and fine cotton in the leaf/stem applique patches.
Notes - A good opportunity to acquire this highly collectible style of quilt in a large size, in better condition it would obviously fetch a much higher price!
