0633 'Crazy Quilt With Rural Scene Backing' £65.00
If you are into vintage fabrics from the '50's you will love the
fabrics in this quilt - the quilt maker used many pictorial scraps to
put together this colourful quilt and a lovely American country scene
cloth on the backing. Best used for display purposes as some of the fabrics are fine.Age - Circa 1950's. Where from - Ohio. Hand sewn - mainly, with some machine sewning. Hand Quilted - Hand 'tied' with cream wool threads. Hand Hemmed - Yes, in large basic stitches with the same wool thread as used in the ties. Materials Used - The patchwork is made up of mainly large scale
colourful cottons with lots of flowers, and some novelty fabrics
including ladies in long dresses and bonnets, part of covered wagon,
fruit. Batting - It looks like two thin soft cotton flannel sheets were used for batting. Backing Material - A delightful large scale rural novelty scene
with a large country house, white picket fence, dog, cows, lovely trees
and farm buildings. This cloth might be a fine wool, it has a different
texture to the cottons used in the patchwork. Measurements - Approximately 72 inches by 63 inches. Fraying - Yes, there are a couple of frayed patches, please see
photos. The backing cloth which has been folded over to form the hem
around the quilt has frayed on the fold, lightly around most of the
quilt, and then badly down one long side so you can see the layers of
fabric underneath. Loose Seams - Someone in the quilts past has sewn a few primitive darns on a couple of loose seams. Holes - Where there is the above mentioned fraying. Holes all the way through - No. Stains - No. Washed - Yes. Notes - Where the backing fabric is soft and of a finer weave
than the front it would be best used for display purposes only, if it
was used on the bed, the tugging would damage the fabric further.
