A fairly tatty quilt having wear at the top and bottom ends, but
still a fabulous, unusual variation of the baskets pattern and
with very pretty fabrics used in the patchwork. This type of quilt
looks lovely displayed on a spare bed, or folded and hung over
banisters, trunk, settle etc.Age - Circa 1930's. Where from - Washington state. Hand Sewn - Yes, the quilt is all hand sewn. Hand Quilted - Yes. Hand Hemmed - Yes. Number of Patches - Materials Used - A lovely mixture of faded pastel cottons with
some brighter red prints. Lots of small scale floral prints and stripes
in blue and white, and red and white. Inset into an off white/cream
cotton. Batting - Thin thickness, cotton batting. Backing Material - Same cotton as used in the front, an aged cream colour. Measurements - Approximately 71 inches by 68 inches. Fraying - Yes, the top and bottom ends of the quilt have worn,
one end has 5 badly frayed basket blocks, the other end 2. The hems
have frayed as well, lightly down the two long sides and badly on
top/bottom ends. You can see in the photos some of the blocks are quite
tatty. Holes - Where there is the fraying mentioned above. Holes all the way through - No. Stains - Yes, the front has two dark small stains, and the
backing has several large areas of pale stains plus a couple of small
darker marks. Washed - Yes. (The stains on the backing might possibly lighten
up when the quilt is next washed, if it was dried in the summer sun
this would help 'sun bleach' the backing).
