This is a unique quilt made out of over 1,000 tiny square patches in
lots of pretty florals, with a Mexican novelty fabric of donkeys,
sombreros, musical instruments in between. Backing fabric is very shabby chic small blue roses cotton. Tied with red cotton
threads, a very cute quilt!Age - Circa 1930's - 1940's. Where from - Missouri. Hand Sewn - Yes. Hand Quilted - Not quilted, but hand 'tied' with red cotton embroidery threads. Hand Hemmed - Yes. Number of Patches - Over 1,000 hand sewn patches. Materials Used - The small patches have lots of pretty floral
cottons, some ginghams, and the sashings between them are in a novelty
Mexican fabric with donkeys, sombreros, fiddles. Likely to be feedsack
cottons. Batting - A flannellette sheeting. Backing Material - A pretty cotton with pale blue roses. Measurements - Approximately 83 inches by 71 inches. Fraying - Yes, there is some fraying of the small patches. Loose Seams - Yes, there are about 20 loose seams, small lengths
along the little squares. As you can see in the photos, someone in the
quilts past has sewn several loose seams together already. Holes - No. Stains - There are a few marks on the hem areas. Some slight age browning of the backing material at the hem ends. Washed - Yes. Notes - Where a thin flannel sheeting fabric has been used for
batting there is no 'plumpness' to pad out the top, as you can see in
the photos, this gives the patchwork a slightly crumpled appearance.
This type of quilt often appears at its best folded on display as the
weight smooths the cottons out.
