This is an antique quilt in a very large size, so would suit a king
or queen sized bed or for those of you who like a quilt to overhang the sides of
the bed. Great 'country living' look.Age - Circa late 1800's. Where from - Rhode Island. Hand and machine sewn - The large patchwork squares have been
handsewn together, and the petal patches have been machine sewn on with
a treadle machine. Hand Quilted - Yes, in a brown cotton thread. Hand Hemmed - Yes, in a narrow red cotton border. Materials Used - The large squares are a 'double pink' and a cream
calico with small print and the petal shapes are plain red, and
orangey/yellow fine prints. Batting - A very fine layer of cotton batting appears to have been used. Backing Material - Cream cotton. Measurements - A huge 105 inches by 102 inches. Fraying - There is a small amount of fraying on the red binding of the hem and a couple of small frays elsewhere. Holes - There are a couple of tiny holes on the front. Holes all the way through - No. Stains - Yes, there are several stains front and back, please see
photos. The quilt also has some very faint quilter's outline pencil
marks which are likely to come out in further washes. Washed - Yes. Notes - Very unusual to find a quilt from this era this large!
