0381 'Tatty Grandmother's Flower Garden' £69.00

A worn, but still beautiful, large sized hand sewn quilt, with well over 2,500 hand sewn hexagons. Imagine the hundreds of hours sewing that went into the making of these quilts!
Age - Circa 1930's.
Where from - California.
Hand Sewn - Yes, lovely neat hand sewing in tiny stitches - and Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts are very labour intensive! This quilt maker either took great pride in being able to say she sewed her quilt totally by hand (as even the long join in the white cotton backing has been hand sewn), or she didn't own a sewing machine.
Hand Quilted - Yes.
Hand Hemmed - Yes.
Number of Patches - Well over 2,500 small hexagon patches, all hand pieced together, and then outline quilted.
Materials Used - Plain white cotton offsets beautifully all the colourful 'flowers' with their yellow centres which represent the sun. The hem has a very narrow faded yellow border.
Batting - Thin thickness, cotton batting.
Backing Material - White cotton.
Measurements - Approximately 100 by 80 inches, measured into the scalloped edges.
Fraying - Yes, a good proportion of the patches have frayed, (out of the 50 'flowers', about half have fraying) but as this exposes the white cotton or the white batting, this quilt will suit you if you are into the 'shabby chic' or worn country look. Not for someone looking for a quilt in good condition.
Holes - Where there is fraying.
Holes all the way through - No.
Stains - There are a couple of small stains, on the front and back, please see photos.
Washed - Yes.
